The Focus—the Mingled Spirit

The Christian life is a life in the mingled spirit (1 Cor. 6:17). Apart from the mingled spirit, there is no Christian life, and there can be no Christian life.

Many times we are misaimed and veered away from the mingled spirit (1 Tim. 1:6). We may talk a lot about the high peak truth, or practice the God-ordained way; but without this mingled spirit, everything is empty and in vain. Today we all need to turn our focus back to the mingled spirit, for it is the key and the focus of God’s economy.

There are many verses in the Bible that Bible teachers find it hard to translate because it is difficult [or even impossible] to identify if the “s” of the word “spirit” should be capitalized to refer to God the Spirit, or to have it in lower case to refer to our human spirit. (There was no upper case in ancient Greek).

But there are at least three verses in the Bible that have both “Spirit” and “spirit”:
  1. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit (John 3:6).
  2. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truthfulness (John 4:24).
  3. The Spirit Himself witnesses with our spirit that we are children of God (Rom. 8:16).
