I’ve spent more than a year to read this book and practice according to what the book teaches with the view of being able to speed up for the rest of my life.
Indeed it was a great help to me. I was able to read up to the speed of 1200 words per minute (wpm). But it also depends on the difficulty of the material. When it’s difficult it could be as slow as 700 wpm.
I am certainly not the fastest reader on earth. But at least it’s still fast if you compare with my previously 100+ wpm. Hahaha.
Allow me to give you a little peak in the book.
Consider the following beliefs:
1. Reading slowly and carefully leads to better comprehension.
2. Each word should be read as an individual unit.
3. Comprehension should be 100%.
4. Understanding should be 100%.
5. Memory of what has been read should be 100%.
6. Notes should be neat and written out along ruled lines in sentence form.
7. Finger-pointing is ‘wrong’ and slows you down.
8. Speeds of above 500 words per minute are impossible.
9. The faster reader comprehends, understands, and appreciates less.
10. Higher speeds produce lower concentration.
11. Normal reading speeds are ‘natural’ and therefore the most appropriate.
12. Always read page 4 before you read page 5.
13 Immediately look up any vocabulary words you do not understand.
14. Problems or difficult areas in a book should be ‘dealt with’ before moving on.
15. Never subvocalize.
16. Sit still until you are finished.
All of the above are common misconceptions. The opposite of each is true!
Counterintuitive, huh? Well it’s true! If you would want to read a lot of books in your lifetime, this is definitely a book you should read. Forget about the busybodies' Boustrophedon. Speed reading is the way!
Highly recommended!
