Firstly, I don't see how Christmas is related to Christians even though both of these words begin with “Christ”. Santa Claus? Tell me which part of the Bible talks about Santa Claus. What does that old man in red clothing with a red pointy hat holding a bell and carrying a big bag got to do with Christ?
Why is he riding the flying reindeer all around? So Santa came from the Arctic? Santa has unending supplies of presents? Santa knows who behaves well and who doesn't and he even knows who likes what? Santa moves with amazing speed to be able to deliver all the gifts? So is Santa a god or what? Are Christians supposed to tell the story about how godlike Santa is? So who is God? Christ or Santa?
What about our parents? So parents are supposed to tell lies to their children. We all know that Santa Claus doesn't exist (prove me otherwise) but we still tell the same old tale to our children and we lie about how they will receive the gift they like if they behave and sleep in the night. Parents then just put the gifts under the tree and tell their children that it was Santa. Oh, it seems that Christians are taught to lie.
You may say that the Bible did mention about gifts. You're right. The wise men offered gifts to the Lord Jesus when they visited Him. But why do parents give their children gifts? And why are people exchanging gifts? What are all these supposed to mean?
Right, and the Christmas tree. Was there a tree in the Bible? Oh right, indeed it was in the Bible. Precisely, in Jeremiah 10.
Hear the word which Jehovah speaks to you, O house of Israel. Thus says Jehovah, Do not learn the way of the nations, and do not be terrified by the signs of the heavens, although the nations are terrified by them. For the customs of the peoples are vanity, because their god is a tree cut from the forest, the work of the hands of a craftsman with an ax. He adorns it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and hammers so that it cannot totter (Jeremiah 10:1-4).Is that not the description of what people do during Christmas? They put a tree in the house and decorate it with stars, golden and silver bells, lights, some other things that I'm not familiar with, and a big star at the top. What idol is that?
Some Christians argued that they do not care about Santa, but it's Jesus' birthday! So how do you know that Jesus was born on the 25th of December? Jesus was born during winter? Explain how the shepherds bring their sheep into the field in the night (Luke 2:8).
“25th of December or not, we don't care. But hey, we should celebrate His birthday once a year!” There was no record in the Bible asking us to observe the birth of Christ. Instead, we were told to remember His death by eating and drink of Him until He comes (I Corinthians 11:26).
The Christmas festive today is highly commercialized and businessmen are taking this opportunity to make more money while people all around the world, Christians or non-Christians alike, are willing to spend a lot of money buying Christmas related products. I just don't see how Christmas is related to Christ or Christians.
Now you tell me, should I celebrate Christmas?
So why do Christians celebrate Christmas? Or that this holiday is related to the Christians?
ReplyDeleteYour first question sounds like a stereotyping question to me. I am a Christian and I don't celebrate Christmas. Why do others celebrate? I would also like to know.
ReplyDeleteHow does this holiday relates to Christians when I can't find Christmas mentioned in any parts of the Bible? At least not in the Bibles that I've read.
[ Tell me one reason why I should celebrate Christmas and I'm going to tell you 101 reasons why I don't celebrate Christmas. ]
